Source: U.S. FDA via openFDA. Not affiliated with or endorsed by FDA.

The problem

openFDA is free, but it is a set of separate APIs with paging limits, nested JSON, duplicates and no history. Each team that wants a weekly picture of new enforcement reports, new clearances or shortage changes ends up writing and maintaining the same scraper.

We do that work once: pull every week, flatten, de-duplicate, join device classification onto clearances, and record what changed (first_seen / last_seen), so you can query it in one line.

Who it's for

What's inside

Four tables. Full columns in the data dictionary.

TableContents
recallsDrug, device and food enforcement reports as published by FDA, cleaned, de-duplicated and unified into one table, with first_seen / last_seen history columns.
device_clearancesDevice 510(k) clearances and PMA approvals, with the FDA device classification (device class, regulation number, product code details) joined in.
drug_shortagesFDA's published drug shortage records, cleaned, with change history across weekly snapshots.
weekly_changesOne row per record that was added, changed or removed in FDA's published data during the week, with the table name, record key and change type.

This is a change history of FDA's published records. It does not track the real-world status of recalls and is not intended for public alerts.

How to use it

After purchase you get a one-time link to download your config.share credential file (Delta Sharing), plus CSV downloads.

Python (delta-sharing)

pip install delta-sharing
import delta_sharing
client = delta_sharing.SharingClient("config.share")
print(client.list_all_tables())

pandas

import delta_sharing
df = delta_sharing.load_as_pandas("config.share#<share>.<schema>.recalls")
df[df.first_seen >= "2026-11-01"].head()

Spark

# spark-shell --packages io.delta:delta-sharing-spark_2.12:<version>
df = spark.read.format("deltaSharing").load("config.share#<share>.<schema>.device_clearances")

Excel / Power BI

Power BI Desktop: Get data → Delta Sharing, paste the endpoint and bearer token from config.share. Or open the CSV downloads directly in Excel / Get data → Text/CSV.

The exact share and schema names are in your welcome email.

Update frequency

Refreshed weekly from openFDA. Each refresh adds a row set to weekly_changes and updates last_seen. Freshness depends on FDA's own publishing schedule.

FAQ

Isn't this data free from FDA?

Yes. The source records are public domain and you can get them from open.fda.gov. You pay for the cleaning, de-duplication, joins, weekly history and delivery.

Are you affiliated with FDA?

No. Apex is not affiliated with or endorsed by FDA, HHS or any U.S. government agency.

Can I use it for recall alerts?

No. The feed tracks changes in FDA's published records, not the live status of recalls. Don't use it for public safety alerts or medical decisions.

How is it delivered?

Via Delta Sharing (an open protocol with Python, pandas, Spark and Power BI connectors) and as CSV files.

Can I share it with clients?

Reports, charts and excerpts of up to 1,000 rows, yes. Redistributing the dataset itself, no. See the licence.

How do I cancel?

In your PayPal automatic payments, or by email to anassabbahi.tech@gmail.com. Access runs to the end of the paid period.
